Adventure Within
Circle for Girls

As parents we want our daughters to have a strong voice, to make healthy decisions, and to have the courage and strength to pursue their dreams.  At Adventure Within, girls learn how to listen to their heart and passions, practice empathy and deep listening to their peers, and engage in participatory leadership and team dynamics by planning their days in community to embrace adventure, rest, and pure fun.  With the skillful support of adult facilitators, this unique opportunity to empower girls to co-create their own agenda is the foundation of the Adventure Within program.

The girls may hike, swim, create art, journal, read, play field games, cook, and plan an overnight.  They explore friendship and co-leadership.  They create real community together. This is a different kind of camp. Women mentors hold space to create sharing and friendship and to discover the unique potential each girls brings when she joins our community.

Let us know if your girls want to join the circle.

this is what growing up strong looks like

Picture
Lucy MacGregor founded Design to Connect, LLC (the mother program of Adventure Within) with her colleague, Jelena Popovic.  (Read more about Jelena in the About Us section).  Lucy is  mama to her daughter, Rowan, and her son, Elijah.  Her daughter is a caretaker of animals, an adventurer in mountains and rivers, and a skilled origami artist. Lucy is a teacher, a circle keeper, a storyteller and a dreamer.  She is a Certified Montessori Educator and is completing a Masters in Education degree with an emphasis on Mindfulness for Educators.  She is a Genuine Contact Professional and is Certified to facilitate both yoga and mindfulness for children and youth. Lucy is most at home in the outdoors and has enjoyed many years of facilitating adventure based learning for programs nationally, including at North Carolina Outward Bound School.  While nature is often the greatest teacher, Lucy also draws on art,  circle processes and the principles of participatory leadership in her work with youth.  You can find her by a stream, sitting around a fire, scheming up a new project, or racing her kids around the park on rollerblades.

Amanda Campisi is mother to her awesome daughter, Mae.  Amanda is a teacher, an artist, and a lover of nature.  Her daughter is a story-weaver, singer, and all around adventurer with a great sense of humor.  Amanda holds a Master's Degree in Child Psychology and is completing her second  Master's Degree in Education with a speciality in Mindfulness for Teachers.  Amanda excels in supporting youth in building strong and loving communities and has a special interest in the upliftment of young mothers.   Amanda  can be found in the woods on sunny days, with her hands wrapped around a warm mug of tea on cold days, and with a good book (or perhaps a paintbrush ) in her hands almost any time.   You can recognize her by her humility, her deeply accepting nature and her heartwarming smile!

Lucy and Amanda both hold current CPR/1st Aid training and Lucy also holds a qualification in Wilderness First Aid.
